GHAZALE BAHIRAIE
DrawerBorn in Tehran (Iran) in 1989
She has been exhibiting her work since 2010 and obtained a Master’s degree in Painting from the Tehran School of Fine Arts before moving to France in 2016.
“Drawing, embroidery, mixed media and video are among the techniques she practises. Being rather curious and wandering in spirit, she has always been interested in the small fragments and tiny objects around her. As a curious artist, she feels a bit like a spectator to whom no detail escapes. Since the beginning of her professional career at the age of twenty, which coincided with the Green Movement in Iran, she has always had a critical and rebellious spirit.
Through her work, she seeks to express her opposition to the ruling regime in Iran, as well as to the conditions of war in Middle Eastern countries and global inequalities, particularly women’s rights and maternal feelings.
In her latest exhibition, ‘Petites allégories d’une grande révolte’ (Small Allegories of a Great Revolt), Ghazale Bahiraie pays tribute to all the everyday heroes who took part in the 2022 Iranian Revolt that followed the death of Mahsa Amini. The artist draws inspiration from both literature and religion, two essential areas of Iran’s contemporary history.
