From border to another & In situ by the wayside | Andréa Vamos
Deceptively hidden behind transparent installations, the places photographed paradoxically reveal themselves. Andréa Vamos offers us a point of view, directing our gaze as spectators by defining, through the staging, a frame of interest.
By placing coloured filters on maritime or rocky panoramas of Montenegro and Serbia, I try to experiment with the place of the image. Where is it? Should form or content be more important?
From the focusing scene that narrows the viewer’s gaze to the panoramic scene that distends the space, the artist implies an attention of the gaze that makes the viewer the actor of what he wishes to see or obstruct. Invoking the Kantian ‘a priori’, that of knowledge that is not acquired through experience but makes experience possible by enabling us to analyse the world in terms of cause and effect, of the local and the global.
