Cabinet of curiosities #1 | Patience and fulgurance
Leïla Brett | Sara Dare | Jo Lewis | Marie-Julie Michel
The Cabinet of Curiosities is designed to be a warm, intimate space where works of art can be displayed in a completely different way. Inspired by a 19th-century salon-style display, the Cabinet of Curiosities confronts different eras with a scenography featuring classical furniture and contemporary works by French and international artists. Galerie Valérie Eymeric is delighted to be able to present this new space on its first floor, which will underline its support for contemporary art while providing an opportunity for new exhibitions.
This first session will be an opportunity to present the work of four artists whose works and creative processes will dialogue around a common theme: ‘patience and fulgurance’. Jo Lewis presents a series created with breath, straws and bubbles of colour that burst and literally appear on the sheet, as does Sara Dare, who, in a few quick gestures, offers subtle references to mountains, language, jets or more naturalistic evocations. As for Leïla Brett, it’s a work of patience, of repeating strokes millimetre by millimetre on multiple monochromes that unfold before our eyes. Marie-Julie Michel’s work is somewhere between figurative and abstract, slowly building up a universe by repeating an infinitesimal sign until a movement, a shape or a volume appears.
