Trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Saint-Étienne and later at the University of Paris 1 Sorbonne in fine art, Dominique Torrente embarked on her artistic career at a very early stage. At the age of twenty-two, she exhibited at the ELAC, Lyon’s former centre for contemporary art, invited by Marie Claude Jeune, and presented her large-format works on paper (pages from books sewn together with thread to form palimpsests, fragile sheets of paper screen-printed with fragments of other texts, and displayed in the space (Tendances Contemporaines Rhône-Alpes exhibition). She has been exhibiting since the 2000s.
