Cabinet of curiosities #15|Where electric grass grows.
Solo show Tatiana Bailly
“Since November 2023, I have been sharing a space with other artists in Saint-Priest, on the outskirts of Lyon. This is the Ateliers Briands, a temporary occupation of a former car factory. Fascinated by industrial wastelands, where the waste products of human activity and living organisms coexist, I immerse myself completely in the outdoor space adjacent to the building. This is followed by incessant comings and goings between this inexhaustible field of research and my indoor workshop. Wandering freely through this space, I photograph, observe over time, collect and gather. I draw, rub and trace the ground onto large pieces of fabric. Back in the studio, I intuitively assemble, combine and connect the different elements using thread and embroidery.
This exhibition at the Cabinet de curiosité presents pieces that act as mediums between the present and the past, between the micro and the macro, abstraction and figuration, and even between emptiness and matter. It invites visitors to discover drawings, relief paintings and assemblages that blur the boundaries between the intimate and the surrounding world. More than objects, these are creatures, organisms, fragile beings in the making. It is an ode to what is already there, to what is within sight and within reach. It is also an encounter between time, which alters, transforms, rusts and composts, and us humans, in search of the right gesture and our place in the ecosystem in the broadest sense. “
