ART CRITIQUE
Faire la lumière | Rémy Hysbergue by Oriane Castel.
In a recent interview, Rémy Hysbergue said: “My concern is rather to try to rework light, because it is the ‘base’. Evolving in an age of image overproduction far removed from Manet’s, and also in a society where most photographs (including paintings) reach the eye via screens and are seen backlit, flattened, smoothed by filters or, on the contrary, decomposed into pixels, his work with light is obviously different. A rarity among contemporary painters, the artist combines light with other pictorial elements such as depth, definition and brushstrokes, in order to question the distinction between image and painting. Gathered in an exhibition aptly named “Faire la lumière”, her recent works can be seen at Galerie Valérie Eymeric in Lyon.
